Six Degrees of Freedom Art Exhibit

My final art show of the year is Six Degrees of Freedom at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery and it begins this weekend. The exhibition features exciting and dramatic original works by six different artists in acrylics, oils and watercolours.

I’m really excited to be a part of this group exhibition and pleased to be able to exhibit with my father again. My Dad and I had exhibitions in Thunder Bay and Lindsay in 2011 so it’s been a while since we’ve had our paintings displayed together.

The show runs from August 28 to September 27, 2016 with the opening reception on Sunday, August 28th from 2-4pm. Participating artists are Biljana Baker, Gail Backus, Nancy Newman, Doreen Renner, Bruce Stonehouse (my father) and me!

Buckhorn Fine Art Festival this weekend!

The Buckhorn Fine Art Festival is this weekend – August 12, 13 & 14 – and I can’t believe it’s mid-August already. It has been a busy summer and it always goes by way too quickly!

This is my fourth year at this show and it’s always enjoyable. There are so many talented artists with incredible work at this show and the volunteers are great – always helpful and friendly.

The opening night Garden Party on Friday from 7-9pm is my favourite. It’s a real party atmosphere with live music, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Garden Party ticket holders get admission throughout the weekend as well. The show continues Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 5pm.

If you are in the area I would encourage you to drop by – it’s worth it!20150814_111814

Upcoming Shows

It has been a busy spring in the studio and our gardens and now we’re busy preparing for upcoming art shows!

I’m excited to be at Art by the Lighthouse in Niagara on the Lake on July 30 & 31 (details below) for the first time. It’s such a lovely community and the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is right on the water. That weekend also features the TD Niagara Jazz Festival and Canal Days in Port Colborne so there is a lot of entertainment to take in.

I will be returning to the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival for my fourth year. I love this show – especially the Friday Night Garden Party and catching up with so many talented artists that have become

friends.

My final show for 2016 is Six Degrees of Freedom in Etobicoke at the end of August which also features my father, Bruce Stonehouse. We had father/daughter shows in both Thunder Bay and Lindsay in 2011 and it’s great to have the opportunity to exhibit together again – this time with four other amazing artists!

The Buckhorn Fine Art Festival was a great experience

This past weekend I was at the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival and it was fantastic! This was my first year and I didn’t know what to expect but I am really pleased with how things went.

John and I went up Friday morning (it’s about a 45 minute drive from home) to get the booth set up. We got checked in at about 8:30am and went to our booth in the Community Centre They have all the booths already constructed out of plywood and painted which is so great. It was pretty awesome to see my name at the top! I was at the end of the aisle and there were only two of us on the back wall.

It took us almost four hours to set up but we took our time. We didn’t run into any major snags and only had to make one trip to the hardware store for a power bar for our lights.

John had brought a tape measure and a level but we quickly discarded them and just went by eye.

And we were all set to go!

Friday night was the Preview Night Garden Party so I dressed up. We had all kinds of family and friends come – it really was a party!

The crowds were consistent all weekend and I there was a lot of interest in my work. So many compliments!

Buckhorn Saturday

I was lucky to have great neighbours – Bronson Smith from Peterborough, Julia Conlon from Windsor and Charles Leung from Lindsay. They were a lot of fun and offered great advice and support. Thank you!

On Saturday night there was a dinner for the artists and volunteers and we had a great time. It was great to meet Henry Fernandes, Yvonne de Viller, Dave & Jane Bigham, and Malcolm Madsen. We also got to chat with Michael Dumas and his wife Ellen who have been long-time volunteers at the festival (Michael wasn’t exhibiting this year). It was wonderful to hear about their experiences at this show and others and once again the advice and support were amazing.

Now it’s time to get ready for the Victoria County Studio Tour in October!
