I did it! Day 366

It’s official – I’ve done it. I have fulfilled my New Year’s Resolution to draw or paint every day in 2012!

When I made the commitment I thought it would be a way for me to improve my drawing skills and it ended up being so much more. I’ve moved my art business forward by having limited edition prints made, and by setting up my online store through Etsy. I’ve gotten to meet other artists from around the world, both in person and virtually through social media and this blog. The support I have received from everyone – blog followers, friends and family – really made a huge difference!

Somewhere along the line I started thinking of myself as an artist. I’m not sure when it happened but I now have a confidence in my abilities and my work that I didn’t have when I started. This is one of the most significant things I got out of the challenge!

I’ve been asked whether I’m going to keep at it and go to Day 367 or Volume 2, Day 1 as a friend suggested. I wish that were an easy question to answer and I’ve certainly been giving it a lot of thought.

This new year is bringing a long awaited change in my personal life. My husband John and I have been married for 3 years but haven’t ever lived together full time. His job was close to 3 hours away so he had an apartment there and would come home on weekends. This week he finishes that job and will be moving home permanently!

I had worked the drawing and painting into my daily routine but that was when I was living alone. It’s now a habit – and one I don’t want to break – but I also want to allow myself the flexibility to miss a day here and there as John and I establish new routines together. I will continue to work on my art and will share it with you through this blog but I won’t be counting the days anymore.

Thank you to all of you for following my journey and giving me words of encouragement when I needed them. Knowing I had to blog about what I drew or painted each day kept me accountable and helped me to achieve my goal. I honestly couldn’t have done this without you.

Happy New Year everyone!
