Stress – and trying to relieve it – Day 313

I’ve been down and out with a sinus infection for a while now. I was off work on Monday and went to the clinic for some antibiotics, and I’m eagerly awaiting them to start working!

Unfortunately there have been a number of things at work that I had to do so I’ve been going in and trying to work through the perma-headache and the sinus pain. I’ve found that because I’m not feeling well I’m really not dealing well with stress.

When I was in high school I used to play the piano to relieve stress. I’d bang on the keys for hours, which I thank my family for tolerating! Now I use painting as a release. It seems that creative endeavours help me to center myself and to put things in perspective.

I also need to get rid of stress physically. Over the years I’ve done a number of different things: running, gym workouts, boot camp and boxing. By far, the best stress reliever was boxing. There’s something very satisfying about hitting the heavy bag over and over again!

For the past year I’ve been struggling with a neck and shoulder injury so my exercise routine has been completely thrown off. I’m obviously missing this component so when I’m feeling better I will be getting back to the gym.

It’s amazing how quickly our lives can get out of balance and how stress can take it’s toll! How do you relieve stress?

    Hi Brenda, I relieved my stress by retiring, but you know I still have some stress. I think some stress is good. It keeps you on your toes so to speak. You are good at what you do, so stress not. Go now and pick up a pencil, and sketch the hardest thing you can think of. Mabe a mountain top. When you have it done you have climbed another mountain, and you will feel much much better.
