The little 12″ x 12″ canvas is ready for paint! I completed the drawing this afternoon. It’s a fall scene with beautiful red, orange and yellow leaves contrasting with the dark greens of the pines….all reflected in the water.
I took the reference photo in Port Sydney, Ontario in a little cove is just down from the bottom of the falls. This has been a favourite place of mine for as long as I can remember. Port Sydney is a very small village – the entrance sign says “Port Sydney – Home of 500 nice people and one old grouch”. Needless to say there has been a lot of speculation over the years on who the grouch is!
We moved around a lot when I was growing up and Port Sydney was the first place I lived. We moved when I was 5 but we always ended up back there to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins. During every visit I always made the time to visit the falls and just enjoy it’s beauty. Later, when I was married and had kids of my own we ended up living back in Port Sydney and it was always the place I went to gather my thoughts.
My father, Bruce Stonehouse, has painted the falls and surrounding area over the years as well – you can check out his paintings on our website at www.stonehouseart-design.com
