A Buddha Board! Day 81

This evening my friends Lisa and Nancy had me over for dinner and a cat play date. Their cat Marty is about the same age as my cat Boo and they get along well. Every so often we bring them together to play which is always good for wearing them out!

We had a nice visit (and a very yummy dinner!) and for my birthday they gave me a Buddha Board. I had never even heard of them before but it’s really neat! This is what it looks like:

This is the description on the box:
Buddha Board is based on the Zen idea of living in the moment. Simply paint on the surface with water and your creation will come to life in bold design. Then, as the water slowly evaporates, your art will magically disappear leaving you with a clean slate and a clear mind – ready to create a whole new masterpiece. Allow yourself to ‘let go’ and not be concerned with each outcome – live for the moment and enjoy!

We tried it out and I can certainly see how it is therapeutic! The brushstrokes look like they’re done with black ink and makes me think of Chinese brush painting. After a few minutes they start to slowly fade away, just like magic. I’m looking forward to playing some more!

The freedom of gestural drawing: right brain activity the source of true creativity. Many of the World’s greatest masterpieces started with a line. So have a camera handy just in case you want to do something with it before it disappears.
