Working on the dock – Day 58

This morning I put some more detail into the dock on Tied to a Dream. I’m not quite sure if I’m finished with that section but it’s definitely better than it was. I’ve been avoiding the boat but I think tomorrow may be the day. I tend to leave the focal point of the painting as long as possible…I’m afraid I’m going to mess it up. It really is silly, since I can always paint over it and fix it – the joy of painting with oils!

I’ve been really trying not to think too much when I’m painting and this is a constant challenge. I can make something so complex and intimidating in my mind that I avoid it for ages or convince myself that I can’t do it. In reality, when I take my brain out of it and just paint it always works out ok.

Lesson for the day? Don’t think too much 🙂

I can’t totally relate to what you’re saying. I often over think things to the point of paralysis!

At the end of the day I guess I have to remember that I might stuff it up but I can always start again, it’s not the end of the world! And sometimes, my “mistakes” have even wound up being something I like!

I think it’s a common problem for artists! But you’re right, we can always start again. And who decides if it’s a ‘mistake’ anyway?
